Interesting re-alignment of stressors this past couple of days. Now that the variety show is over, I can concentrate more on my square dance life, and of course add all those projects that will keep me crazed for time.
Mondays has been the Wilde Bunch club/class night now for the past year or so; we dropped Tuesday beginners/Mainstream nights when the number of persons starting classes dropped so low that we couldn't support the second night financially. That may change again, since we have between 12 and 16 in this new class we started just before convention. What's interesting about cost is that the 3 1/2 hours of dancing, what with caller fee and hall fee is $71 per night. I'm sure some places would KILL to get off so cheaply.
The challenge now is how to support FIVE dance programs on a Monday night. Lots of thought has to go into the future for that...I've done it for a while and am not diggin' it. We short the Plus and Adv dancers badly. Right now it's C1 from 6 to 7, then some mix of beginners, Mainstream continuation, Plus and Advanced from 7 to 9:30. Oh, and of course I intro or review one line dance or mixer every week, too! We're all together in one room at one time, but breaks are short, if there are any at all.
So, what do I do tonight? I get home and call the manager of Sidewinder's Albuquerque (formerly The Ranch) and agree to teach country western dancing on Wednesdays (for a trial period). Gee, and that's chorus night, and when that starts up from hiatus in late August, what to do, what to do.
In any case, I miss the old heady days of dancing my feet off with friends at the Ranch, so this may compensate for that. Too bad the bars in Albuquerque aren't smoke-fee like NY and CA!
Danny hasn't tried to talk me out of it yet...we'll have to see what comes of that. I tried a one month trial of lessons there once before in 2002 with the old management, but they absolutely did nothing to promote the program and nothing came of it. The new manager is desperate to find someone, since he's promised a dance program to HIS boss.
Now to go dust off my Madonna headset...
Oh, work at UNM is fine, too. My (gay) boss called from vacation in Florida and asked me to update my job duties for submission to justify my two grade level increase I'm supposed to get soon!
