Finally got productive in the late morning and starting hauling out the rest of the ivy hedge and prettying that area up in the lower terrace. It was all still pretty soggy from the rains of the past few weeks, and being protected from the sun, was getting pretty ripe with composting.

THEN, I started knocking out the old 1960 unusable barbeque pit (cinder block) which had been mostly covered up by the ivy over the years. That's when the fun started...I found the nesting spot of 1000s of roaches and a number of black widow spiders...whee!!!

Both Danny and I used the powers of mucho bug killer to work on that situation. The unexpected side effect was that 100s of the dying roaches crawled away from the source and were scattering all over the patio, the house and the south fence. It looked like a scene from a low-budget horror movie, especially when they were on the soffits, dying and dropping off.

Calling that project 'fini' for the day, I opted for a short nap before we dressed for Stephen Black's Halloween Party. Not much energy into doing the dress-up, but at least we were costumed. Stephen made it sound like there would be 100s there, but when we arrived shortly before 8, there were just 7 people lanquidly hanging out in the kitchen. The homeowner (Alan King, not the comedian) had spent the entire day decorating, and it showed. Over the next couple of hours, 5 or 6 more people showed, but it was pretty subdued all in all. We petered out about 10 and came home and directly passed out in bed. Such a fun couple we are! :-)

Today, we're looking over homes to go visit in the final day of the "Parade of Enchantment" homes tour. It seems to be mostly new developments nowadays, but we've picked out a couple to visit that are several times over what we could possibly afford, so we won't be tempted to sell this one and buy up!
