Thursday night C/W evolving
Oct. 28th, 2005 12:05 amSince July, I've been teaching C/W and line dancing at the "new" Ranch. Over the weeks, it's been settling down into the same core group, often Wilde Bunch members, and from time to time, a new face.
I've gone through the dozen or so line dances I know, and have taught a lot of 2-step and waltz moves, and speciality dances that I've learned myself over the past 20 years.
One of the recent transplant dancers, Lee, asked last week if I could teach a bunch of popular line dances I DON'T know. Happily, he volunteered to show me the steps, and I eagerly said we could meet a bit earlier and walk through some of them.
Tonight was "My Maria"...I had the cue sheet, but hadn't really been able to walk it through from the description. I put Lee on the spot during the lessons tonight and asked him to teach it (after we had quickly done a walk-through before the class), and he stumbled through part of the lessons. He wasn't teaching it very clearly, so I put on my control queen hat and taught the rest of it through, with the 20 or so folks there patiently walking through it with me holding onto the cue sheet.
What I'm HOPING didn't happen was making Lee look bad. But he was quite game in wanting to work through other line dances with me, but NOT at the Ranch! I've got his cell number now.
Danny and I only make Saturday nights at the Ranch about once a month...we don't have the energy to get there more than that. I do hear that most of the dancers I've taught are there, though, which is the whole point of the lessons. Yay!
