Christmas Eve
Dec. 25th, 2005 12:06 pmTurned out to be a really lovely evening!
At dusk, after lighting the 48 luminarias, we primped for the evening's events.
First stop was Charlotte Walton's place in the North Valley...had a mild scare getting off the freeway since it was completely clogged with cars at the Rio Grande exit. Remembered that the country club luminaria tour just south of there would have caused the traffic turning left, so we skootched around the long line and sped down the right side of traffic on the offramp. Shhh.
We thought we had the wrong night...there were no cars at Charlotte's. The invite was for 'anytime after 6pm' and we got there at 6:35. Hmmm... Charlotte and her husband Ken, a retired FBI guy had a huge spread laid out, with pots of posole and tamales simmering in the kitchen. We stayed, snacking and yakking with them for at least 70 minutes before another person showed up, her nephew. It was very weird to be there when no one else was, but Charlotte kept insisting people would show up...it was her family mostly. Well, after a wonder bowl of posole, we made our exit about 7:50 and headed off to Jim Wiley's place in the Heights.
Now, Jim's place was PACKED with gay men...singles and couples, all sort of the mold that Danny and I are. We had some really good yakking there, too, and I sampled some of the Sangria with "chunks". I didn't realize it was supposed to have fruit chunks in it. A meal in itself. Jim is an old friend now, who I dallied with in a former life. A very sweet man, single again after FINALLY dumping that cowboy he was stuck with for several years.
But onward and upward, we left there about 9:15 and headed down the road to the Ranch. It was a quiet night for sure, considering how packed it's been on Saturdays since Sidewinders took it over. But we danced and danced with our friend Scott until I was absolutely exhausted. Just after we got there though, the manager Sean came over and we yakked about the future of the c/w program. He's very gung ho on it, since it's been going strong for five months...he'd like to add another hour to it and dumped the karaoke afterward. We'll see where it all goes.
We straggled home about 11:30 after what we thought was a full night. Danny went to bed, and I had a minor a-fib thing AGAIN, but it calmed to normal sinus in about 30 minutes after another tab...this time I just sat and waited, watching the end of some movie, and it was all better. Crawled into bed at 1 and ZONK.
