The Wednesday thing
Jan. 18th, 2006 10:04 pmToday was my Stress Echo test at Pres Hospital. I feel like i'm starting to live there.
I emailed my co-worker Karen that I was going to be in mid-morning, after the test. It's just a treadmill test with the same echo machine that was used in November. This time, someone rushed in at the beginning to ask if I would try this new 'drug' that enhances the ventricle pix on the echo screen...after some hemming and hawing (I really really hate needles) I agreed. Stupid decision. The dork that tried to find my right arm vein tried twice and after his futzing around, I decided it was NOT worth this, so away I went without this faboo drug IV.
I did make it up to my goal heartrate of 169 with no problem, but I'm so out of shape that the 13 minutes did break me out in a sweat. As soon as I reached that point, I had to immediate jump back to the echo machine and get that slathery goo cold prongy thing poked around. Oh, I almost forgot. I had to have parts of my chest shaved this time. Sigh.
The reason for this test was to see if I would be 'tolerant' of certain prophylactic drugs to control the a-fib...which I haven't had in two weeks, mercifully.
Walking out of the office, still with a slight sheen of sweat and elevated heartrate, who should I happen to bump into was the tech director of Popejoy Hall, Billy Tubb. This is way too much of a coincidence. He JUST turned 40 and has an irregular EKG and doesn't feel well. We've worked together closely for almost five years now, so it was something of a shock to run into him. He was the NEXT patient on the same treadmill I was on!
The workday wore on uneventfully. I'm still relatively bored, since my old job has little activity right now and my new job has too much vagueness as to its direction.
A couple of weeks ago, I said I'd sing with our chorus as a special school Diversity Day up in Santa Fe, which requires me to take 1/2 off work on the 27th. Tonight, I went to a 45 minute sing-through of the five songs we're performing...2 of which I knew well, 1 which I had learned on the fly last Spring, and 2 totally new. Next week, we'll be spending 2 hours plus working on the numbers, so we'll see how that goes. Other than that, I'm off for the term, since the spring concert dates are on the same weeked that I'm calling in Denver in May.
Came home to work through clearing up some of the pre-me bookkeeping glitches in the Square Dance Center books. The annual general meeting is this Sunday, so I want to be 100% THERE for it. I'm about 80% right now, mentally at least.
And to all, a good night.
