Woke up at 5 this morning, and since I couldn't get back to sleep, decided to continue on with the old paperwork destruction thing.

Danny's shredder I've been using is slow and tends to overheat, so after about 2 more pages this morning, I said, "Okay, this is going into the fireplace."

Woowoo! 25 years of old paperwork and bank statements in flames! Only took 6 hours to get most of it sorted and burnt...my left hand is a bit scalded. This is an 'okay to burn' weekend here in ABQ, and after the strong brief winds yesterday, I decided to risk it, with the inks in the paper being the only real polluter.

The irony is that THREE different TV stations this morning had feature newscasts about identity theft, and that it's as simple as having access to a name and social security number. Every old bank statement and most of my legal docs had my SSAN in there somewhere! Yeesh!

Found LOTS of memorabilia that I am keeping. My divorce papers from April 9, 1979. Early Wilde Bunch archives. Medical records from the '94 trip to London where I have my first diagnosed a-fib. Letters from friends I haven't thought of in years. My speech at '95 Chicago IAGSDC giving Anne U the Golden Boot Award (now posted per Danny on the IAGSDC website). Early High Desert Stars archives (now-defunct Santa Fe group). Miscellaneous property tax and capital purchase paperwork. All my notes from the Diamond in the Desert convention here in ABQ in '92. All of that fitting into ONE letter storage box, versus the 8 or 9 boxes worth before.

We'll probably get all the rest sorted and re-stored in the understairwell room by tonight...most of what's left is junk I've been hanging on to or other lovely chachkes (sp. Then off to the Marshall Flippo Dance tonight to collect money!

Winter came back, but dry dry dry...got down to 18 this morning, and might peek up to 43 later. At 11am, it's crawled up to a sunny, breezy 29....brrr...much better off than the east coast that's supposed to get many inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.
