Sort of a Friday
Feb. 24th, 2006 08:57 amThe office here is again empty of anyone but me. Karen is on a week's annual leave, Antoinnette is at a funeral in Farmington. Just sitting here looking out the window at the four Riverdance trucks doing the load-in. When I got here at 8, one of the trucks was completely blocking the only road through campus, and cars were lined up for a couple of blocks waiting patiently till he'd backed into the loading dock.
Another sold out run! All five performances have been sold out for a week, except for the random single seat here and there. This season has completely turned around from what happened last year in the 'biz,' which caused us to lay off enough people to reduce our overhead by 1/4 million, and cut the number of shows down by 1/2.
So, I'll have to do all the box office reporting for the shows...after five years of doing this, it's not such a big deal, but I can never book any out of town calling dates if I know when the shows are. Complex, when I'm booking dances into 2008!
Next season is looking "safe" to say the least. Phantom is back for 32 performances (last here in 2000), Mamma Mia is back next year for 8 performances (last here March 2005!), Movin Out for 8 (I don't know the show), JC Superstar revival for 5, and maybe Rent again, which always sells out for 5. Plus our other 16 shows we present from one nighters.
I'm happy to say that this year, for the first time in 3 years, Popejoy Hall will show a profit!
