Another quiet Saturday
Jun. 4th, 2006 07:41 amWe've apparently opted by silent consent not to rip out the laundry room wall this weekend to get it ready for new wiring and plumbing. Fine by me! I'm surprised we haven't gotten a call that the cabinets are ready to be picked up. When you prepay for stock items, you'd expect to have them pretty quickly.
We did some more fridge shopping and pretty much decided on a Frigidaire model at Best Buy, it being on sale. Of course we couldn't find anything on the internet with reviews of that model. We'll hold off for a bit more. The old fridge still works, but it's about 18 years old now, a bit battered, especially on the inside. It was the Whirlpool "Designer Series" that came with the house, a fairly basic model.
Most of the morning I worked on the square dance center books, getting them up to date, since we're having our every-other-month board meeting today. I have a few reports to crank out, but happily that chore is done. Two of the principal board members are out today, so hopefully it'll be short. We also have the central district callers meeting today, too. This will be special, since we've been asked to bring in two singing call records we like...a local band is going to learn them for a central district dance on July 29. I've never called with a live band before, so this should be something!
Last night, we saw the Vortex production of "Elephant Man." Considering it was community theatre, it was very nicely done. The one who played the John (Joseph) Merrick role had no makeup at all, but he played the part very well, with a crippled stance and no expression and gaspy/wheezy speech. Dr Treves was really well played, giving a very good rendition of a person in anquish about his role in Merrick's live. I was a bit confused about WHY he was anguished, but there must have been a larger picture of his dealings with London Hospital than you saw outside of his interactions with Merrick.
Having worked at Popejoy Hall all these years, and anything under 1500 audience members is considered a bit light for a show, being one of only 17 in the audience was a bit humbling. Of course, Vortex could only seat 75, versus the 2043 for Popejoy, but still....the show deserved a larger audience. No intermission, so at 9:30 we were done and outta there for the 4 minute drive home.
As per usual, we couldn't keep our eyes open past 10:30, so off to bed we went. No Ranch dancing night for us!
This evening, Kris and Turtle-Bear, and two of the Daves from c/w dancing are coming over for a games night. Time to get the house in order! There are FOUR Dave/Davids dancing with us on Thursdays, so we've had to give them all little pet names like Santa Fe Dave, Rocket Dave, Trick David and Square David to keep them sorted.
Was out sweeping up some debris in the lower patio this morning and at 7:30 it already felt really warm. It's definitely mid-summer weather already, with mid 90s high desert heat pummelling midday. And of course, no rain in spite of the 30%-40% probabilities announced. I think even the local weather forecasters are about to throw in the towel.
