The Fall term is about to start here at UNM, and I get to experience the myriad marching bands practicing for 'whatever' outside this building. The noise of the drums and the brass instruments is overwhelming at time, but it's hard to escape it without going across campus.

I think most Albuquerqueens are a bit stunned by the weather. It's been significantly cooler than normal, the humidity is consistently high, and flooding is the norm in some parts of the state, including here in the low areas around downtown. I'll mow my little patch of very green grass in the morning for the 3rd time in a week...sometimes I can go all summer without having to mow it, but not this year.

It's rodeo weekend here, and although I'm a member as a show of support, I'm really not into being a spectator at the events...way too slow, and too few people that I know competing in whatever event they do. Danny's volunteering tonight at registration, so he'll get to meet and greet, but I think I'll just do other things. It's supposed to be heavy rains most of the weekend, anyway.

Tomorrow, we're going to attempt to finish laying the parquet. It's already a little bit misaligned in places, but I hope it doesn't show overall.

Speaking of parquet, the Ranch managers had the dance floor refinished a few days back and it came out REALLY well, with a very dance-able surface. I was surprised and happy that it worked out...I've been on floors where it has been impossible to dance after being refinished. Last night, we had the usual 25-30 dancers, and in spite of my low energy level, we kept it high spirited for the whole two hours. Not many new folks lately, but the ones that are new really get into it.

Tomorrow evening is Lawrence's hubby Scott's birthday party...hopefully this time he won't have an allergic reaction to something and end up in the ER before the party starts!

Danny's at the rodeo, registering people. I got a fuzzy voice mail a couple of hours ago that it was disorganized chaos, but couldn't understand all the words. (note to self: go and buy an answering machine that works).

And we've been having yet another severe thunderstorm.

Hope he's under cover!
