Sunday on one of the Weather Channel shows, there were dire warnings as to how Southern California was in a severe drought; most of the Southwest is.  On the other side of the Mississippi. most of the Southeast is in severe drought mode and the rain deficit can be measured in feet.  This makes for featured topics in some of the newsmagazines.

But here, we had another 1/3 of an inch of steady rain yesterday evening lasting most of the time I was calling for the Wilde Bunch.  It's 90% humidity right now in the early morning, and more rain predicted today.  We're almost double our average precip this time of year. at about 5 inches of precip.   Like last summer, the high desert here is verging on green.  In our Xeriscaped yards, the opportunistic weeds are getting the better of many of us at a time when they'd just be starting to pop up here and there.

I'm thinking we might even start seeing (gasp!) mosquitoes soon!

It's all topsy-turvy right now, but we need the wet after years of our own desert-relative drought.  Wonder what our late-summer monsoon season will be like?
