Weather oddness
Jan. 29th, 2008 11:33 amThe weather forecasters were all vibrating in excitement over the quick winter blast we were to have last night, and indeed, we did get one. During the day, it was actually quite nice, in the low 50s, and with that 'oh yay spring IS coming' kind of feeling. It even was mild on the way back from the square dance center last night at 9:30.
By 11:30, the winds had kicked up to high gusts of 50mph+ and there was a fine powdery snow blowing around that made it look more like ice fog than snow. This morning, when I peeked out, it had all settled down to maybe 1/4 inch of ice on the shaded spots.
Since the street appeared clear in front of the house, I just naively went in to work, dodging the few icy spots on the road. It was already up to 28 degrees. Danny had already gone in at 7am, and since he wasn't at home, I didn't figure anything was up.
The Bookstore where my office is was shut solid as a jail...I couldn't even get in the backdoor with my swipe card. "Hmmm," I realized, "UNM is on a two-hour delay and I didn't even think to check!" What to do!
So, I wandered over to Popejoy Hall, read the paper, checked my email and yakked with my boss until I could get into my office.
All is back to normal. Ah, that Albuquerque weather!
