Getting there
Dec. 22nd, 2008 06:35 pmGranite was installed today. Danny stayed home, waiting for them. The installers were supposed to be here at 8am. They finally arrived slightly before 3pm. Danny was livid, since the phone calls he made were returned with notes that "they were on their way." And all that. Blah. The installers rushed through the process, finishing in something under 45 minutes. They just wanted to get home. They were REALLY in a hurry. Danny challenged them on the installation of the undercounter sink. It's not quite right, and when you pay that much for what one assumes is quality workmanship, he got even more livid.
Several calls later, it's arranged that the granite 'troubleshooting team' is coming out in the morning to look at ths sink, which is just misaligned after having had massive amounts of pre-measuring by the templaters. Blah. It will be made right.
We're convinced that ALL contractors think we're muck. We're over that. But in spite of that and all the minor setbacks, the kitchen is shaping up. The fridge has to be moved again in and out since it's hooked to an extension cord. The box behind the fridge isn't hooked up to the new circuit yet. We unpacked and prepped the stove for the plumbers to install it. The dishwasher is nearby.
There's some patching and painting to be done, massive amounts of cardboard to be taken up and recycled, the plumbing all finished, the rope lighting over the cabinets to be tacked down, the new cabinet over the stove to be taken out and a new smaller one installed, and all sorts of this and that, but it IS coming together.

Yesterday, we painted the bathrooms and started the cutting and layout of the tiles. Here's where we are in the guest bathroom. Danny found a "profiler" which is truly an amazing invention!

Sadly, the plumber has to be put off now till after Christmas, but the electrician should be able to correct all his errors and finish installing the rest of the lighting tomorrow. Yay!
Now to get the master bedroom and bathroom doors sorted out, everything moved out of the back rooms into the living room so new carpet can be laid, the wall tile put up in the bathrooms after we lay the floor tile, the bathroom plumbing completed, the vanities installed, new countertops for those chosen and installed, then we'll feel like we're 'close.'
