The crud

Back at work again. Yesterday was frightfully busy, it being yet another short week.

In spite of having the crud, which [livejournal.com profile] allanh can certainly relate to in all it's manifestations, my outward appearance is likely pretty normal, if haggard. Inside, it's...ugh. Dayquil, nasal spray, tissue and hot tea is at hand at my desk.

I did call the Plus and Advanced last night, since I haven't lost my voice yet, but I did warn them all that I wasn't at top speed. We're through 11 calls in Plus and 12 in A1 so far. The A folks all thought I was very clever in how I approached teaching "Chain Reaction," one of the OMG calls that seems to exist at every program. I'm suspecting the A1/A2 programs MAY drag out over 9 months or so, unless I do some kamekaze workshops here and there; I had promised them we'd have them at least exposed to all the calls before they were unleashed on the world at convention.

The final episode of "Life on Mars" recorded last night...looking forward to see how they actually complete the series. There are so few shows on TV that actually have a real 'wrap-it-all-up' finale...most of them just...end. That's why reading novels is so much more satisfying!

In the midst of doing cost analysis for the 08-09 theatre series. I'm not that impressed with the shows that Tom is booking, but the theatre audience may like them. Touring companies are having more and more difficulty even surviving. I don't know what the Broadway series is looking like yet...I'll probably get that info in a few days. It's going to be a hard year just like 2004 was. It's tricky to actually advertise shows during a presidential election process, and this one is this year is going to suck all the radio/TV air time away for sure. We have to get REALLY creative with putting the word out, just as everyone else has to.

Calling Basic/Mainstream/C1 for Kris next Monday. She's used the A/B/C program for the beginners the past 3 weeks, so I'll have to put it all together for them. There are only a couple of Mainstream Continuation folks, so that'll be catch-as-catch-can...so far over 3 weeks, she's only taught Cloverleaf and Turn Thru as new calls, since they need a lot of work on the basics still.

Might skip the c/w exhibition workshops tonight...need the rest for teaching c/w tomorrow night, plus I need to work on the ASDC books for the AGM this coming Sunday afternoon!

Don't keep us in suspense... how did you teach it?

Nothing that clever to me...I called the wave ends the "butterflies" that floated around the corner to wait for the "hinger" to join them (the very centers). There were also the "glue" people that were commanded by the powers that be to not move until they became hinged. Then there were the "passers" who move into the center star along with the "glue" people.

Made them think of their roles before they did part 1 of the call, which is to form the stars, and say the parts as they go for part 2 and part 3. Defined part part three for the non-casters as "the end part of coordinate" since we haven't dealt with Hourglasses yet for the final HG circulate.

Fingers crossed that you're fully on the mend. I'm working on the same optimistic hope as I developed Crud West just before this past weekend (Insert Sudafed, aspirin, Honey Lemon lozenges).

Fascinating explanation of Chain Reaction, it definitely gets the point across! The call might not have been as frightening had it been explained as you have.

I really don't like to beat definitions to death, but this one can be a floor breaker for sure. Next week, I'll start working them in non-vanilla (but not C1) positionings for Chain Reaction.

Hope you get better, too. This is an annual occurence for me, and just frustrates the hell out of me. Why can't my sinuses be cooperative! :-) We have humifiers blasting away in the house in the winter, but it doesn't seem to have helped either of us.

Well, it's more important to look good than to feel good, right? :-)

I guess that goes back to the original Wilde Bunch motto: "It's not what you do, but how you look when you do it!"

;-)

I've taken (or audited) A under several callers, each had their own way of teaching the various moves. By far the most difficult was the 'by definition' approach.

Funny too how I still hear Andy Shore's voice in my head to this day when I do some of the MS and Plus calls.
