My stress levels have been a tad higher than usual, but after watching a bit of "Aliens" tonight while channel surfing, I realized my life is smooth as silk.

Yesterday:
-  Had my first eye exam in 12 years.  Had one of those new-fangled Optometer somethings that look at the inside of your eye and capture an amazing computer image without any need of dilation.  No cataracts.  Perfect optical nerves.  Zero signs of macular degeneration.  All good.  The purpose of the visit was to get graduated lenses though....and a couple of hundred dollars later, I'll soon be the proud owner of a set of glasses.  NOT reading glasses, but glasses.   Some extremely slight correction for distance, but nicely graduated so I can see near and middle distance without fear.

-  Found out my tenure as the oversight accountant for the golf course is done.  Relief.  I think.

-  Found out the business manager of one year for UNM Parking is moving on.  I'll now be the oversight accountant for Parking until a new business manager can be (eventually) hired.  This is the guy that (finally) replaced the other business manager that decided to die of a massive heart attack at work just after Thanksgiving, 2006.  Hmm.

- Taught the last of the calls to this WB Plus class.  80% through with A1 for the rest of the class.  Relief, with enthusiasm.

Today:
-  Had a grueling dental cleaningat 8am.  I don't know what the hygenist was doing, but my mouth still hurts 12 hours later.  My teeth are in very good shape (for 53), but she seemed to be working through some inner demons, while repeating the mantra YOU MUST FLOSS over and over and over*.  She scraped until my gums were raw.  I brush faithfully, I use a waterpick daily.  I HATE FLOSSING.  I'm tempted to find a kinder, gentler hygenist.  Of course, the dentist thought one tooth (a rear molar) might need a coating of 'whatever' to help from getting a new cavity.  I told them we'd wait until next visit to make a judgement call.  They're just trolling for additional income.
- 2pm Staff meeting yawn
- 3pm Finance meeting.  All bland, except I found that one of the job positions we have that is covered by overall auxiliaries now has to be funded by US.  And I had finished the budget already.  Oh, and we're no longer "Auxiliary Enterprises"....we're "Business Enterprises."
- 4pm  Talk by an old friend and former tenant, Pari Noskin, downstairs in the bookstore, promoting her new novel, "The Socorro Blast."  I have all three of her books now, but haven't had a chance to read any of them.  She's working on three more novels, as well as raising two daughters with her husband of 15 years.  She looks years younger than her photo on her web page.  She just turned 50.

Danny's off doing his AGORA volunteer work tonight.  I finished watching Show 5 of Season 2 of Jericho, and am now comtemplating a quite evening.  Should be working up the dance program for tomorrow night...but tomorrow is another day.

* There's never a demonstration of HOW to properly floss.  Just that I have to.  Or else.

Posted by jimwnyc - on Bill (Tinman 11201)'s computer and can't delete the comment: I had a great dentist in Albuquerque and loved the hygenists. Didn't hurt that Dr. Wall used to be a male model too! Let me know if you want contact info...

That's confusing...I'm assuming this is Jim writing under Tinman's id?

If I look for a new dentist, it'll be for someone near UNM, not in the far heights.

There is no way around flossing, WaterPik or not. Just build it into your schedule like showering or shaving, and get it done. You'll be surprised how easy it is to get used to and how much cleaner your teeth feel. And your dental cleanings will be much shorter. I gave in about 4 years ago and I'm never going back.
