That poor dog
Sep. 3rd, 2005 01:21 amThe dog next door is NOT gone, but it doesn't bark any more.
It howls quietly in frustration, pain...I can't tell what. And only from time to time.
The 'owners' shift it back and forth from being chained in the front yard, to being loose in the back yard. He has a serious wound over one of his eyes. I tried to get Rocky to come up to me for a treat and kind word today, but he looks...odd. Sort of distrustfully crazed. I tossed the treat over and he ignored it, so I walked away. I came back a second later, and he was gulping the treat down, and gave me a sorrowful look.
I don't think the dog will be here when we get back in 8 days.
And I'm haunted by all the pets either left behind or drowned on the Gulf Coast.
The icon here of me is a VERY small section of a picture of me and my dog Sophie, on the living room sofa, me softly stroking her tummy, her looking content and sleepy and elderly.
Good night.
