Confused as to intent
Jul. 25th, 2008 12:23 amSomehow, Albuquerque has become customer-support-India.
Some years ago, there was a 'ginormous' (I love that word. I'm sure it'll be in the dictionary soon) MCI customer support center way up in the northeast heights. I became aware of it because I had to actually call a square dance for their quarterly awards party many years ago. It was a hoot, since I had to research hundreds of square dance patter couplets to insert into the dance.
MCI is long gone, but about the time they left, Sprint opened a majorly huge support center on the outskirts of Rio Rancho. I had a friend that worked there for a long time, commuting daily 120 miles. I have a memory of him telling me that the hardest thing he had to do for his 60K a year was create a spreadsheet of productivity. Sprint is still there, but I don't know anyone personally that uses their service anymore, nor do I hear advertising for it. My friend moved on long ago to other opportunities.
Last night, I drove our visiting friends up old Route 66 to 9 Mile Hill to see the view of Albuquerque. That corridor on the west side of town is what you'd call 'rapidly developing.'
I noticed on my left as we hit 98th Street (or was it Unser Blvd), that there was a double ginormous Verizon call center that appeared out of nowhere. Do people actually use Verizon? Hmmm...
I'm waiting for a T-Mobile call center to pop up somewhere here in the desert very soon. Maybe next to the Tempurpedic Mattress Factory next to the Petroglyph National Park.
