Danny and I saw "Take Me Out" last night at the Glenn Rose Theatre at Montgomery and Louisiana. Kudos to Troup 147 for bringing it to Albuquerque!

Easy to see why it won a Tony in 2003. An interesting and moving script, and an unusual topic! The troupe was a little uneven; one or two of the guys, it was their first acting experience, and it was pretty obvious who they were.

Twas a lot of nudity! It all fit perfectly in the script, since it was a locker room stuff. Nothing baudy though!

The audience was mostly "mature" gentlemen couples of a certain age, with a few grandmothers mixed in (likely volunteers at other theatres who love going to see anything). There were 4 current square dancers there and a number of other people I know (Danny is always impressed, but 25 years of living in one city will do that, unless you live in a cave)

I hadn't been to that theatre before. Apparently the Glenn Rose existed in the 90s, but had been shut down for a few years and just reopened last year. It's really a bare bones, no budget, strip-mall conversion. And the set that was built was DEFINITELY no budget! If I had known, I'd have certainly donated $50 and doubled their budget. They're affiliated with the Vortex somehow, and I certainly wish them well.

The hits of the show were the gay business manager and the "table".

We both recommend it.

Sidebar: It's interesting to me that we've seen two offbeat Baseball-themed theatrical presentations this year. Momix "Baseball" a few months ago was a bit over the edge, too. Maybe WE should go to local Lobo and Isotopes games!
