Robins and roadrunners seem to have a lot of the same traits when they're rooting around in the back yard for food. Both are much less shy of humans than other birds and never seem to be in any type of hurry.

Haven't seen many roadrunners around this year, but this one is probably from the family that lives just over the fence. I was within 6 feet of him (her?); we just watched each other for awhile.

Beep, beep!

I really like how that second picture captured it's "walk." Beware of ACME trucks pulling into your neighborhood!

Just a moment later, he turned and showed me his tail. It's humorous to see when they fan their tail and head ruff!

Danny played some old Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons a bit ago. I realized I had never seen them before in color, so I always thought roadrunners were grey! (as opposed to the purplish-blue in the cartoon).

I love roadrunners. I look at them and think you can really see how birds could be descended from dinosaurs.

It's easy to think that considering how carnivorous they are!

I don't see it. It would take more than 6000 years for a dinosaur to turn into a bird, wouldn't it?

I think that might have been a bit too subtle even for our bright boy, Steven. ;-)

Not if you believe, as I think all modern, educated people do, that the world and everything in it was designed (one might say intelligently) by A Force That Is Not God But Just Seems Like God. Then, like one's appendix and the playtpus, it all makes perfect sense within the short history of the world.
