Dear William:
Thank you very much for contacting me to share your thoughts on gay
marriage and Senate Joint Resolution 1, the Marriage Protection Amendment.
I'm glad you took the time to share your thoughts with me on this issue.
The thoughtful input of New Mexicans has always been and continues to be
of the utmost importance to me as your U.S. Senator. I have always
believed that it is essential to know what is on the minds of the people
it is my honor to represent in Washington, and I assure you that I will
keep your concern in mind.
I do not take amending the U.S. Constitution lightly. In this case, I
support a constitutional amendment that defines a marriage as a legal
union between a man and a woman. I understand that some same-sex couples
enter into relationships, but I strongly believe that a marriage should
only be between a woman and a man.
Again, thanks for contacting me, and I hope you will continue to keep me
informed of the issues most important to you.
Sincerely,
Pete V. Domenici
United States Senator
