False alarm

billeylerThe guy that sent the listing of the specialty hours neglected to put down WHICH "Bill" was to do the 9am Thursday "Fun Mainstream Hour." After I looked in the program, turns it was a Bill Wilkins...NOT me. Vast relief.
Humid? Can we say humid? I broke into a sweat just walking out the door of the hotel. But once I made it over to the convention center (a very LONG two blocks), all was better. Checked in at both registration and caller's center, and all was well in the world.
But the knee blowout that I've felt creeping up on me is still getting closer to happening. I'm going to have to take it VERY easy with dancing...I danced a few C1 tips and I felt it going. Ugh.
The number of registrations is just slightly over 7,000, and they keep updating it as the hours go on. Only 52 from New Mexico. And as with Denver two years ago, I keep wondering where all those people are.
I did have a 6:40 High Energy Mainstream tip. Only one square, but I gave it my best. After that, I left to come back to the hotel, walking through the Plus room. There were about 40 squares in there! OMG. And they have THREE different Mainstream halls, all sparcely attended.
Grabbed a Turkey Wrap for a quick lunch. Tasty and filling.
Andy made it into SA in time to do his 3pm 1/2 hour C1 session, so I just danced it...there were 3 squares for that. Andy did very nicely, cueing dancers at appropriate spots. Oddly, they call it a C1/C2 hall, but there is not specific scheduling for each level. I couldn't hold more than 3 squares. When Betsy was calling, we determined there was a square of C2, so she called that.
The Advanced hall (spelled advance) is way too small. It's about a 6 square hall, and I'm sure there were several times that many wanting to dance in there. Bobby Poiner said it smelled like a locker room earlier in the day it was so packed. Shades of Moonshine!
There was Line Dance hall, but there was never anyone in it in the several times I peeked in. Contra seemed to have a lively, but elderly crowd. The Mainstream Singles room only had two squares max, usually one square the several times I looked in.
Brought my satchel back to the hotel. They have a great storage area for it at the convention center, but I feel safer bringing it all home. I had left it in the storage area early on, and wandered over to the C1 hall, but the caller hadn't shown up. Crazily, I volunteered to call for 30 minutes, and had to borrow a record and a microphone!
I'll head back over shortly after a shower and probably stay for the after parties all these groups seem to sponsor in different halls.
No dinner sounds good. But an early bedtime sounds good too. I don't have to call until 1:30 tomorrow.
