Minor house maintenance
May. 27th, 2008 09:05 am Monday, rather than go on the riverside bike ride Danny had suggested, I opted to do the much-dreaded project I've been putting off for...oh, 10 years, at least.
The paint on trim on the north side of the house has peeled and cracked and is pretty unsightly at this point, even moreso after the new windows and stucco a few years ago.
The problem is that much of the trim is 20-25 feet up behind some junipers that make it a little more difficult and awkward to get to.
I was able to apply 1 1/3 coats of paint remover, scraped most of that off, and tested the sander to even out the wood and what was left of of the paint on about 2 foot of the 35 foot of trim.
After 5 hours of that, realizing what a boring, somewhat dangerous and tiring job it was 15+ foot up on a ladder and figuring I was only about 25% done with the project, I called it a day at 3:15pm and just vegetated with Danny. Danny had thought it was a good idea to hire someone to do this. Can you imagine? Ugh.
We watched the 3rd of our library DVDs we picked up on Friday, a 1981 made-for-TV British movie called "A Good Soldier"...a strange movie to say the least, and not a cheery one.
Sunday night after the hike, we had watched "Dirty Filthy Love"...a movie I had caught before on cable, but had forgotten that I'd watched it. Excellent acting, considering the leads had to portray some pretty serious full-blown OCD/Tourette's symptoms.
