Friday so far
May. 30th, 2008 01:31 pm Work: I hate to finally admit that it's possible, but I'm bored at work. Every aspect of my job with the theatre is caught up and I've even run out of make-work projects. I'm sure this'll pass soon enough; just found out yesterday that the entire HR system is going be upgraded to use something called "PeopleAdmin" which synchs with the depressing SCT Banner system that's mostly in place across campus. That'll happen on November 1. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, we'll get a year of no new complete system change/overhaul/upgrades to keep everyone on high stress levels with hard learning curves.
I'm sure there are many projects I could be doing as part of the Auxiliary Support Center, but I'm not motivated to push back into that area too much. We'll see how this all shakes out.
Last night's Sidewinder's c/w teach was much better than last week, in no small part because Danny was there to be my able and valued assistant. The numbers were up a bit from last week and there was actually some enthusiasm in learning a two-step sequence; normally, the largest crowds are on the floor for line dancing. Last night's lines were Tahoe Kick, Simplemente, Picnic Polka and Tush Push. My own energy was up significantly over the day before when I felt like I was coming down with something.
Next week, I'll be doing a mixed square dance/c-w dance for 3 hours there as part of the Wilde Bunch quarterly fundraiser beer bust. They make a couple hundred bucks out of it for just a couple hours of light work, and we're usually able to recruit a bit for the new June 15 class (which I'm not scheduled so far to teach, which is just fine with me).
I'm liking this Friday off deal my boss came up with. I won't have to go in on Fridays at all through the summer until July 11, right after convention! I'm sure my other two co-workers Karen and Isaac are less than thrilled about this, since they're NOT paid by Popejoy Hall, so they don't get to reap the benefit of the flex time!
Danny had scheduled two fencing companies to come by today to do estimates for the electric gate and a length of fencing on the driveway for security...9am and 2pm. The 9am didn't show up until 10:10 (Danny called me and said that he must have had the time wrong). After I went over the needs with the (cute, young) estimator, I headed off to have my car washed and then serviced. Right after I left the car wash at 11am, Danny called and said the 2am appointment was actually 11am and that estimator had come and gone. Huh. He rescheduled for 10am Monday when HE is actually off of work.
So the car is all squeaky clean and happily oiled and lubed up now!
On top of that, I also baked two Zucchini Bread loaves while waiting for the first estimator. I'm sure they'll taste fine, but both loaves actually fell in the oven, so they're not very loaf-like right now. We'll see how they turn out and I'll find out what I have to do to the recipe to make them look like bread.
Bought a replacement tomato plant, since one of the two I bought in April seems to be on the verge of croaking...it hasn't grown at all and by this time should be at least two feet tall!
