Spectacular!
Jun. 26th, 2006 09:51 pmPart way into square dancing tonight, about 7:20 when I was walking everyone through an easy contra routine, an ENORMOUS FLASH OF LIGHT AND BOOM AND A SPRAY OF GREEN SPARKLES greeted us from the east door, which was open to let the air in.
A lightening bolt had hit a transformer across the parking lot by the motel 75 feet away. Lights flickered but stayed on.
That was the start of an impressively huge thunder, lightning, and windstorm that finally abated about 9pm. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of rain with it, but the howling of the winds and the booming of the thunder made us think we were on the verge of a tornado. We danced, but we were ready to duck and cover if it got really really bad. There's still some impressive lighting fading south of us.
Back at home, I see that it was a 200 mile wide line of major thunderstorms (deep deep red) that passed through. Whew!
Most of the dancers that are going to convention are leaving scattershot over next few days...I think there are 2 squares of us going.
abqdan and I are probably the last, leaving on Friday morning for Anaheim.
Tonight was the 3rd and last of the open houses for the new class starting July 10. Looks like at least a square of new folks, and I believe they are all women. We danced 4 squares a couple of times tonight.
The only downer of the night was that Leann had her Jaguar broken into and her nursing kit stolen from the back seat. Bummer. It had to have happened just after the storm.
