Here's a great time-lapse of the seat replacement for our theatre, Popejoy Hall.  Work started June 4 and ended on about August 31:

Theatre Seat Replacement

We went from 2043 seats to 1985 seats...first full seat replacement since 1966!  May this set last 40 years, too!

I love time-lapse videos!

Why are there fewer seats in the new design?

One row of 22 was removed right at the front for better access across the theatre for patrons. The rest of the seat loss was from installing wider seats in some areas for patron comfort. In most performing arts theatres, the seats are between 21 and 23 inches wide...they're varied to help with spacing for better visuals. We have more of the wider seats now!

I can't help but wonder... Was there any concern for the impact on the hall's acoustics from the seat replacement program?

Yes, that was a major consideration. There was an acoustician company hired for consultation with the architects. The seats were actually modified somewhat from the original design after analysis.

All part of the $1,000,000!

I so totally want to go see a show in Popejoy just so I can sit in those seats.

Well, of course I have better reasons to visit ABQ, too. :-)
