Nice and quiet...
Nov. 7th, 2005 10:52 pmDanny's gone to bed, so thought I'd just rest up and toss down a few notes...
The 3 day weekend was superior, what with the hospitality of San Franciscans, in particular
sfbearhoney and his previously-unknown partner of 13 years, David. Gary Dougan's hubby Charlie picked me up in Oakland, and we had some good yak time, eventually meeting Gary for lunch in Walnut Creek at the Elephant Bar.
Ended up spending a good bit of time with Ron Masker on Friday evening and Saturday, with dinner at a delightful Chinese restaurant with six of us, then a fascinating, but exhausting tour through the De Young museum in Golden Gate Park. He's been such a good friend over the years, but we haven't been keeping in touch as much lately as we should.
The weather Saturday in San Francisco was extra-special, with turquoise blue skies and lightly crisp temps...not cold, but not warm either. Apparently my trip was bookended with not quite so nice weather, so this was a treat.
Thanks to the calm (except for the occasional construction projects going on) at Ed and David's house, I was able to spend at least 4 quality hours writing choreography...a bonus that I can rarely attain at home. And the sleeping was good, too, although I should have worn sweaters in the house more!
The two dances went by just like that. Three hours of Mainstream and Plus on Saturday, then the C1/C2 2 hour session on Sunday. I felt like I could have kept a calling marathon going. Got to finally meet the lovely
excessor, but at the dances proper, it's hard to get a conversation going when my mind is on calling. Just a quick hug here and there, and catching the tail end of conversations. There were some other LJ types there this weekend that are apparently friends I just haven't met yet.
fuzzygruf snapped a quick photo of 4 of us (three I DO know) from Sunday just when I was closing up after the Midnight Squares dance. It would be great just to go and visit some of these folks out of the context of dancing.
Oh, the flights back and forth! Direct to Oakland, which is always a nice easy 2 1/4 hour flight...but on the way there, one of our WB dancers, David Gant, was on the flight with me, on his way to an MCC conference. Very companionable conversation; sorry he's leaving in just a few weeks for Tampa. On the way back, an elderly lady noticed me reading a Vic Ceder definition book, and asked if I was a caller. Turns out she's mall-walking buddies with some older friends of mine from the str8 square dance world, so we yakked about that. Very pleasant, all around. Flights on time or EARLY!
Tonight was Wilde Bunch night, and we seem to have ended up with three students in the new class again. We're doing some kamekaze catchup, since they're all quick studies, to get them up to speed with the last class. The energy is up again, and that combined with the Thursday C/W classes has been keeping my own enthusiasm up.
We've set that we're starting a C1 class at 6 on Mondays starting in early January...this will be combined Wilde Bunchers as well as Kris's non-gay advanced group for those interested. She thinks a couple of the Thursday nighters might be a bit on the slow side, so we'll see. We might have to combine forces on the teaching in any case.
Confirmed the Denver 22nd Anniversary Dances the weekend of Feb 19 with Karen Fields this morning...so, it's Friday night, Saturday afternoon and evening, then a C2 session on Sunday...very much like a flyin!
Not quite sleepy yet, so guess I'll start reconciling checkbooks and all the fun first of the month stuff.
Oh, yes, and I worked 8 hours today at my REAL job... :-)
