billeyler: (sunlight)
It's been interesting reading some of the well-thought out responses to that "ask me anything" bit that's going around, but some basic insecurity won't let ME do the same thing. Or maybe it's because there's enough of a cross-section of people that read blogs that I can't imagine an all-purpose or TMI response being the right thing to do.

Then again, it's 2:30 in the morning, having awakened after going to bed at 9:15. Having had 2 30-minute naps after dinner last night, I gave in to my body and crashed. But now I'm up and the mental state is that late-night "Ugh" right now.

[livejournal.com profile] abqdan and I are firmly entrenched in some bizarre nether-region of sleep habits right now. He apparently was awake on and off all night; I woke up solidly at 2 something, went back to sleep at 5 something and finally crawled out of bed at an unknown hour, but I think it was after 8. He was up before me, which is usual for a weekday, not a weekend.

Today was house-tidying day. A former verging-on-intolerable coworker that's moving back to ABQ wanted to stop by for a visit, so we had agreed on 1pm. We piddled around doing odd chores all morning, and Janet did indeed show up at 12:50. We had a longish chat, mostly her, about her ills and neuroses and her boyfriend in Austin that she was leaving for the 4th time. We're talking about a 59 year old woman here. I think under normal circumstances, Janet might be a nice friend, but she's over to top to consider friendship on the long term. Anyway, Danny made a nice little lunch for us all, and 2 hours later, she was on her way.

The rest of the day was spent with a modicum of cleaning up the lower terrace (visible from the downstairs windows) in preparation of the re-inaugural C1 class workshop here at the house Sunday afternoon. Normally, this would be a pleasant job, but the winds where whipping around at 25 to 40 mph from this storm that never seems to actually GET here. I was coated with dust and dirt when I finally cried, "Uncle!"

We opted for no making of dinner tonight. I think the Halvah we had as a snack did me in, with a pretty intense tummy situation just before Janet got here.

The latter part of the evening was spent with me figuring out where to hang all the art downstairs. After a couple of hours of futzing around and generally just thinking about groupings, it's all measured up and hung in various spots around the room. I thought we had a LOT of art, but the 15 pieces I hung don't fill the room at all. We moved some of the art from upstairs to the downstairs and played around with it. At least it's all moveable...and probably will be as time goes on. Part of the problem is that some of the art dates back to my bread-and-water days of the late 90s, when $30 was a big purchase. It doesn't quite go with Danny's more extravagant random buys. Danny came in as the last picture went up, and just wrinkled his nose.

Maybe [livejournal.com profile] abqdan can find some room on our joint credit card for even more art!

We had some minor discussion of hitting the Ranch tonight, since they are hosting the American Bear Awakening dealie this weekend. Both of us agreed that we're too tired, and think we might try for the Bear-bust tomorrow evening after I've finished up the C1 workshop.

And I'm still waiting for the weather this big California storm is supposed to bring. Phoenix got almost an inch of rain today after 143 days of precip-free weather. The wind has died down, so maybe we'll wake up to snow here. Radar was showing the storm just hovering west of us and not quite making it to the metro area...
