billeyler: (heath brokeback pensive campfire)
Last night was ugly to say the least.

A surprise cold front scraped through here, bringing with it 50-60mph windgusts and a major dust storm.

Most of my irises decided to lay down on the ground. Small branches tumbled from the cottonwood tree, yard furniture was scattered, but except for one large Russian Olive branch I had to saw off this morning, no major damage.

The airport was closed for a couple of hours because of the brown out. [livejournal.com profile] krisjensen called us about 9pm to ask if our power was out...her power had been out about 2 hours by then, which is critical, since she's always online. We live just 2 blocks away, so our power being on was odd...our streetlights up and down the block were off, as were the lights on the SW corner block across from us, but everywhere around us, power was on. Just pockets of areas around the city because of falling branches on random lines, I reckon.

It all subsided mostly by 10pm, leaving much cooler temps and a lot of dust. But of course, no rain.

I just called Kris...her power came back on about 11pm, so all is good in the world, except that she had another cold. In spite of that, she's hosting C2 again.
