ANOTHER FREAKING WINDSTORM! Okay, this is the time of year that I want to pull what little hair I have out. This has been the worst season yet. I had to move all the houseplants back inside, since they were mostly tossed all over the back porch...even the big potted ones were rolling down toward the steps.

So I sit here just wanting to kvetch again. Sigh.

The weekend had its ups and downs. Danny and I did rent two videos that had been on our short lists. Saturday night was "Flightplan" which was mildly entertaining in spite of the Swiss cheese plot. Tonight was "Mrs Henderson Presents" which we both truly enjoyed...that's my first exposure to Will Young, who apparently is a British "Pop Idol" star. Can we say GAY?

Have had some e-correspondence back and forth with Bill Tyler from the bay area. He and his partner Jim (another Bill and Jim...oh, my) are wanting to look in the ABQ area for a house. We've invited them to stay here for a weekend in early August and we'll be tourguides for them. I haven't broken the news to Bill yet that there is no C3 dancing within 500 miles of here...but I'll work my way into it.

Since I had a hard time getting to sleep last night (yet another late night windstorm), I stumbled on (from the beginning yet!) a movie from 1979 filmed totally in Albuquerque, "A Shining Season" with an over-acting Timothy Bottoms. I always loved his name.

In it, he plays a 23 year old state champion miler who has just a few months to live, because of testicular cancer that has metastasized. In those last months, he whips up a state win for a lagging elementary school girl's track team. Bitter sweet story, but it was great to see real shots of the area from 27 years ago, including looking down from Sandia Peak on areas of Albuquerque before they went into hyper-development.

Saturday evening, we stopped over at an open house/birthday party for the boyfriend of a friend of ours. Orlando (the friend) has such a complex dual life. He's a mostly closeted, formerly quite promiscuous married man with a daughter, and splits his life with his husband Ivan, with 2 night a week stayovers, and the rest of the time with his heterosexual family. You just have to take one look at the 47 year old Orlando and know he's gay...his wife accepts his dual life. Theoretically, his 13 year old daughter (quite bright) doesn't know. Danny and I have now officially had dinner with Orlando and BOTH of his 'wives.' What an interesting web we weave.

Today I actually prepped for calling the Mother's Day Fun Dance at ASDC from 2 to 4. This is supposed to be a once a month open community dance, patterned after Square Dance ABC. Kris called it last month.

Of course, it wasn't pretty. Although we had more than a square, it was made up of a motley crew of bad dancers from the local singles club, a few kids with their mother, one attractive single guy from India, and a middle-aged woman who couldn't execute even the simplest calls, although I patiently danced her through them over and over again. By the end of 2 hours, I wanted to chew my microphone holding arm off. Please God, don't let this be on my epitaph.

Since heavy on the tired side, so may be calling it an earlier than usual night...it's almost 10:30 pm already,

Good night, dear diary.
