[livejournal.com profile] beldamon did a concise wrapup of the square dance portion of the Montreal event, and I really can't add much more to that from a dancer point of view.

Montreal overview )

The most impressive bit for me of the weekend was that you would have had to be deaf and blind NOT to know the OutGames were in town. From the OutGames banners on every pole at the airport, to colorful signage through town, to videos of some of the events in the subways, to extensive newspaper and TV coverage, SOMEONE did a remarkable job on promotion and coverage. I was hugely impressed...even the GALA 2004 chorus fest in Montreal had no real coverage, and there were over 6000 of us in town for that.

Both our trips back and forth were completely smooth on the no-frills American Airlines. Except for the juice I had, the only snack was a packet of snack mix we got on the Dallas to Albuquerque, which of course Danny couldn't have. I only slept about 2 hours the night before we came back, so I operated in a fog all of Saturday and went to bed at the amazing hour of 8:30pm. Whew.

If the Dallas square dance club ever became active again and hosted a convention, here is the place to do it!

Both flying back and forth to Montreal, we landed in Dallas, passing over this enormous resort hotel/convention center both times. I think Grapevine, TX is about 30 minutes outside of downtown Dallas...isn't the NAME in itself just perfect?

One of the more universal singing calls callers do is "Beautiful Brown Eyes." Doesn't this song have a sweet sound, like someone had fallen so deeply in love with someone with brown eyes that they'd never go back to someone with blue eyes?

Well, back when I was lyric researching when I was converting all my vinyl to .mp3, I came across the lyrics to the song, made popular in the early 50s by Rosemary Clooney, Kitty Wells, and others.

It tells quite a story... )

Interesting...huh?
