Stayed up late watching TV last night, then collapsed about 2am, waking at 8:30...sigh.

Danny had to make an emergency trip to Santa Fe this morning to help his friend/client Joe deal with losing his Vonage connection (he doesn't have any other phone than that).

I decided to get productive again, and final coat mudded the bit of the kitchen wall where the cabinet was, prepped it for painting, and started working on the rest of the edge pieces for the never-ending parquet saga.

Danny got back after about 4 hours, and after we did the first coat of brick red on the kitchen wall (boy is it dark, compared to the Moon Yellow part of it was before!), we made a pilgrimage to Lowe's to find a nice sconce to utilize the old wiring that was left from the under-cabinet lighting. Danny's a magician with wiring nowadays. We actually found a two-light sconce that matches exactly the 5 light foyer chandelier we put in nearly three years ago! Yay!

During a lull, I BBQed some chops, made a mini-salad of tomatoes and bell pepper from the garden (yay me!), with a light olive oil, oregano and pepper spritz, and nuked some store-bought whole cauliflower.

After dinner, I worked some more on the parquet pieces. It's very fiddly, since almost every piece has to be cut now. The parquet overall had expand 3/4 to 1 inch toward the edges...very little of the old edges actually fit. I've got about 20 feet of border left to deal with before we nail the trim back and call the job DONE.

Oh, my cousin Roy Roach in Tempe, who I've never met but corresponded with recently, called this morning just after Danny left. He's 56 and has had a hard life, having been wounded in Vietnam, and then has had work injuries from his job...and has been on full disability for 4 years. Maybe we'll actually meet one of these days. The guy's been married three times over the years, but we didn't go into a lot of other detail. He doesn't sound like the West Virginia hill folk that most of my relatives are. That's an accent that's hard for me to try to describe.

DesignStar spoiler )

It was a GORGEOUS day today, with barely a cloud to be seen. The humidity dropped down to the teens finally, so the swamp cooler was happily churning out cool air for a change.

Now for a relaxing evening and early to bed!
