Having gone from three or four cups of coffee a day this time last year to maybe one or two over a weekend is quite a change, but I don't even miss it. Put our Saturday pot on a bit ago to surprise Danny when he wakes up.

Wednesday chorus kickoff rehearsal was...sparce. There were only 11 of us there, and two of those were newbies. I think there were several more who couldn't make the first night. Our prez had committed the chorus to have 8 singers there for a Closet Cinema fundraiser on 9/7, but he couldn't even get that together. Hmmm...might be another interesting term. At least most of the holiday music is work I've done in the past 8 years, so it won't be like reinventing the wheel.

Thursday night's c/w is starting to feel transitional. We've had very few new folk starting in the past month or so. I think most of the women have started going to a smoke-free coffee shop on Wednesdays near the University for c/w and line dancing. I'm tapped out on brand new dances, but there are certainly plenty of the old dances to review, and there's a very loyal following of 25-35 that come every Thursday.

Friday noon, I met up with my friend Gary Dougan's partner, Charlie Priest from Oakland and another out of town square dancer from Atlanta, Bill Denton for lunch. They were both in town for that A-list Black Tie weekend that doesn't interest Danny or me at all. Was a nice two hour visit...I had never met Bill D before, since he's a fairly new dancer. He had nice things to say about all the folks that I've met from Atlanta (which is still on my list to visit someday). Apparently a number of them vacation together; some of the ones I saw in Montreal met up with Gary and Charlie for a kayaking trip in Yellowstone the next week!

Friday night, we were invited up to our friends Dave and Dave's place up near the foothills. Danny was again impressed by the commanding view of the Sandias to the east and the mesas and city lights to the west...that's about the only part of living where we live that he longs for. We only have a splinter of a view of the mountains or the mesas from our house. We were a little surprised when we drove up to the house and saw movers going in and out and two good sized vans out front. Turns out, the movers were VERY late in arriving to pack up some of Dave H's exe's belongs to ship them out to Texas. Whew. We had a fun burger dinner and watched a near-campy DVD of "Showgirls," one of the 100 Shows All Gay Men Should Watch list that was on LJ a while back. Dave H awed us with whipping up a flaming crepe dessert (made with beer instead of milk) during the 'intermission' we took during the movie. I'd only recommend that movie if you really, really like to see a LOT of women's breasts in a pole-dancing Vegas showgirl atmosphere.

And yet again, Thursday afternoon after I got home from work, we had a very powerful localized T'storm that dumped 3/4 inch of rain and hail in about 30 minutes. If we get .01 inches of precip between now and the 31st, it will be the wettest August on record. Forecast is for scattered T-storms through the end of the month, so I'm sure it'll happen.

And now to finish up the edge and trim of the flooring downstairs. We have to start seriously thinking of house-cleanup for the 4 sets of couples that will be staying here over balloon fiesta!

- Sort and dry the remaining bits of parquet pieces to use around the edges. Some of them got damp from Thursday deluge. CHECK
- Trim back all the arborvitae in driveway to allow more room for backing out without popping the side mirrors. CHECK
- Prune the remaining 5 unpruned arborvitae in driveway from 14 feet to 7 feet**. Got ONE done, only minor scratches, so that makes 3 completed out of 7.
- (Finally*) remove the 11 feet of cabinetry over the kitchen peninsula to open up the kitchen to the dining room. CHECK
- Hit the store for a 2 foot pruning bypass sheer, which will make pruning 10x easier. Impulse buy end-of-season oleander for the south wall by the chimney. CHECK
- Liquid Nail the 3 replacement white counter tiles to the area Danny chiseled out when he took out the supporting ironwork today that supported the east end of the cabinetry. CHECK
- Grout the tiles. TOMORROW.

* Danny had emptied out those cabinets about 18 months ago so that we could get used to having all the excess foodstuff stored and consolidated elsewhere. Removing the cabinet today was easier than we thought it would be. Danny did the prep work of removing the ancient flourescent fixture, moulding, and screws. We just have to find a new place to hang our holiday cards now, since we used to hang them on the back of the cabinet (facing the dining room). The cabinets are going to be remounted in the garage...soon.

** There are now HUGE piles of arborvitae branches and debris all along the driveway which will have to go in the dumpster when we finally hire one for all the prior renovation debris thrown in back of the garage. Trimming the other 4 arborvitae may have to wait until I can get TO them now.
