One regret about the weekend
Mar. 31st, 2007 02:37 pmThere are lots of activities at the Callerlab annual gathering now before the convention starts on Monday. Sunday evening, there is a demonstration dance from a youthful Colorado group that keeps alive the old 'cowboy dance' form that Lloyd Shaw made famous, and that eventually morphed into the dancing that we're doing today.
I'm hoping there's a tape of that dance that I can buy...in the 80s, the Wilde Bunch was known for its "Flying Squares" where we incorporated a lot of those showy, athletic square dance moves, especially the 'show basket,' 'flying vane,' a very stylized 'garden gate' into a 'Venus and Mars,' ' the Oxbow Loop,' 'Birdies in the Trees,' and other showy routines.
I'd love to be able to get into it again, although the moves were probably much easier when I was 30 versus 52!
