billeyler: (balloon fiesta)
This Saturday morning starts the 9 days of festivities for the international balloon fiesta.

Interesting topic this year is that the city has done so much infill development in areas that were wide open just a few years ago, the balloonists have had SERIOUS issues about where they can and can't land.  It's all up in the air (no pun intended), since you never know which way the winds will take you anyway.  We've had them go over our house by the airport many times over the years, and you can just imagine how much the FAA would discourage balloons in the jet flight paths!

Not long ago I heard this word, having no idea what it meant.  I'm sure I had never heard it before in my prior 53 years.  Since I first heard it, I've heard it again and again and have seen it in print a couple of times.  I think I've been living in an alternate universe where this word didn't exist.  If I had known it, I'd have used it...rolls of the tounge and has a happy, lush sound to it...

louche

adjective
of questionable taste or morality; "a louche nightclub"; "a louche painting"

Yet another word that I saw in a magazine earlier in the year, also never having heard or seen it before is...

eponymous
1846, from Gk. eponymos "given as a name, giving one's name to something," from epi- "upon" + onyma, Aeolic dial. variant of onoma "name

I used to hear that one called self-styled and such, but never the word 'eponymous,'  as in calling an album you've released by your own name.  Now that term is all over the place.
