billeyler: (balloon fiesta)

I was just about to read LJ this morning when I saw a hot air balloon out the window not 50 feet from the house...this morning's prevailing surface winds have taken all the balloons south from the launch site.

Here's this clip Danny took on his camera as a balloon passed over our deck, about to land in either the golf course one block south of our house (probably frowned on as a land zone) or the airport just south of the golf course (most definitely assuredly a no-land zone!)

Lovely way to start the morning! I had just started to do the house winterizing while Gary and Charlie were still out at the balloon field!

We just found this great time lapse clip of last year's balloon fiesta over several days from morning ascensions to evening fireworks!

Although Gary and Charlie (the white haired ones) have been away from the house for the blacktienm.com events, it's been nice visiting with them and hosting them.  They'll be leaving today.

We whittled a lunch yesterday down to me, Danny, Gary, Charlie, David (from Toronto) and Bill (from Atlanta).  A nice table for six accomodated us at Standard Diner in "Edo"...the trendy new name for Albuquerque's East of Downtown area.  Of course, I always think of the original name for Tokyo when I see that.

They're all off at the balloon fiesta this morning...maybe a few hours for socializing and a bbq this afternoon before they head back to CA tonight.

Albuquerque seems to have dodged most of that dry cold front that plowed through the mountain zone...but tonight there are freeze warnings in the valley areas, all along the river.

Amazing.

Today, we took a walk with Gary along the Rio Grande down by the Bio Park.  Lovely, tranquil time...very pleasant.  Charlie caught up on a little nap time at the house.

Mid 60s, dry, little breeze...just wonderful.

Back at home after a little downtown tour, Danny served us up with Margaritaville happy hour and Dannysammiches before they had to run off to return their rent-a-car and flight to Oakland.   Nice send off to Gary and Charlie for a good visit.

Back to reality!
