The week so far
Jan. 16th, 2008 06:47 am For a while, someone in the dark recesses of UNM IT Network left campus-wide emails that this past Sunday, they were doing some fiddling with the entire system, so every process would be unavailable on Sunday. No biggie...I don't work on Sunday. Usually, this is all invisible to us rank and file workers.
But come Monday, some of our processes weren't working quite right. Although Groupwise was forced on the entire university a year or so ago, most of the offices still use Microsoft Outlook for email, and of course that has to be patched into Groupwise. And of course, with the net mods this past Sunday, Outlook no longer functioned right, but few realized it was because of this work that was done. Email could be received, but not sent...ugh. Well, it was a quick fix IF you knew what was going on, and thankfully, Danny was around to figure it out for me. There were no messages sent out by IT Network to everyone noting that this was a side issue from the systems reconstruct on Sunday. On his side, the entire knowledge management system went awry, which is just as huge, and he had to lasso that problem and get it under control. We are WAY too dependent on network systems, but there's no other way now.
Tuesday night's Plus and Advanced night felt like an exercise in organized chaos last night. Since this is only week 2, everyone is getting used to our own realignment again. It's an alternating mix of review, new calls, full level tips for 2 programs all squeezed into 2 hours, and I've extended this past 9 to get a full A tip in for the angels. Sometime in March, we'll be done with teaching Plus, so we'll be dancing at least 4 full Plus tips, while continuing to plow through A1 and A2. I made a pledge we'd be done with Advanced by convention, so some kamekaze intensive non-Tuesday workshops may have to happen for the truly crazed. I'm sure it will all settle down soon.
We're not going to Phoenix for the flyin this weekend, something that's been a tradition for quite a while. Danny's got tickets to see DRUM! this coming Sunday, and I may go see it, too, since I don't have to work it at the theatre. It would be nice to get warm in Phoenix, but not this time. Since it's a 3-day weekend for us, we'll try to find something interesting to do.
We're supposed to have subfreezing temps the next couple of days as our HIGH temperature. I'm going to take one of my mother's afghans to use as a lap and leg warmer since the chill under my desk is arctic in the winter.
