Security Drill
Feb. 21st, 2008 09:51 amWe were all pushed to sign up for automatic text messages or email if there was an instance. Yesterday, we got email that there would be a drill sometime this morning.
I've gotten 3 different emails so far, each with this message:
THIS IS A DRILL. PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. There are reports of gunman/possible shooting on campus. Avoid Johnson Center and surrounding area. Seek safe location and remain there until given an all-clear.

This list is used for emergency alerts for the UNM Albuquerque campus.

Johnson Gym is across the street.
The customer service manager downstairs is giving a script announcement downstairs that staff and customers are not to leave the store until there is an all clear. There are TV crews outside monitoring this. There are UNM police vehicles that have come up the pedestrian mall and are warning all walkers to take cover.
However, there are still people just wandering around without any warnings given. Just like in real life. The irony is that tonight's show "The Tempest" is loading in at the back dock, and the workers are all doing their thing just like normal. Our tech crew decided yesterday they'd ignore the drill because of load-in deadlines.
But everyone who has texting (who signed up) or email alerts definitely seems to be in the know!
