billeyler: (all eight)
Fallout from the Wilde Bunch 25th anniversary dance this past Saturday...

Since Gordon Macaw was here from Phoenix and hadn't started dancing until 1996, I played the 1988 IAGSDC Phoenix convention tape. Parts of it at least; there was over 2 hours of tape from the days of Art Smith being the semi-official videographer for years.

Danny didn't realize I have years of video tapes of early conventions, evening going back to Seattle in 1984.

Last night he converted the 1984/1985 tape to DVD (and soon to mpeg/Flash). This morning, we're watching it while sipping our morning coffee. I spied a young [profile] ozdachs in the '84 tape dancing with a Fistful of Crinolines. Some of this tape even has 1983 Reno Gay Rodeo footage, and footage of Freeman Stamper and Michael Stokes receiving their Mainstream diplomas.

[portion deleted at Danny's request]

I don't think there is any official videography at conventions anymore. Digital photography has changed the way we record event now. EVERYONE is able to. I know I used to look forward to ordering a tape...and now I'm glad I have so many of them. (Thanks to Karl Jaeckel for giving me the earliest tape!)
