Oh, man, we slept!

Think I finally crawled out of bed about 9am; Danny was up just before that after over 10 hours of sleep, which followed a day of drowsing and napping. We must have needed it. I woke up downstairs in the recliner at 2am and crawled into bed to a comfy spoon with the Danster.

A bit of front and back yard tidy today. Nothing special, although I did actually ground soak my non-PC patch of lawn in back today. The every-other-day sprinklings aren't doing it.  I tested the ground and it was dry as a bone.

In the front area, I raked and broomed yet more mulberry fluff and pine needles from previous windstorms for a couple more bags of debris.  Started cutting up the stucco/chicken wire for discreet disposal in the trash bin.  After that's all gone, the debris pile is history!  I'm pretty pleased with the way it's all looking right now.

We did quasi-agree on the master bedroom/bath remodel in concept, but we'll have to work out details (like everything beyond this goes here and that goes there). There's construction involved. Contractors. Okay, I'm now scared.

Bored with the weather. This under 10% humidity thing and more wind than is good for you for weeks on end is a drag.

Oh, we did wander down to the Ernie Pyle Library this morning (3 blocks away)*. It's his 1930s clapboard house on Girard "Boulevard" that has to be kept in the same way it was when he and his wife lived here.  I don't know when his wife gave the house to the city, but it's really a cute little house that gives character to the neighborhood.   There are great historical pictures of him living in the house in 1939-1940, when this was the edge of town, with fantastic views to the west of the volcanos (now all house and tree blocked). Apparently they didn't have much money; it's no more than 800 square feet, 2 bed, 1 bath, all now pack neatly floor to ceiling with library books, cds, videos and magazines. We came away with 2 movies we'll watch: "No Country for Old Men" and "Changing Lanes"...both look thoughtfully interesting.

Big Dave and Rocket Dave are coming over tomorrow night for dinner and Don Strachey video watching. Looking forward to some social interaction again!

We might venture out in the morning to the south fork of the Rio Grande Bike Trail. I'm praying for no wind...it kicked my butt last time. A couple days ago, I bought a helmet, a bike mirror, and flashing light and a sturdy bike lock to prep myself for starting to bike to work. If this works, then I'm cancelling my $28 a month parking pass and just biking to campus. I could buy a pretty decent bike with that money.

Danny's off food shopping for tomorrow. On the menu: Reheated Cheeseless Lasagna, some veggies to grill, and another batch of tasty gaspacho. Who needs meat and dairy!

* I thought it was interesting that over the past 70 years the house numbers all changed on Girard.  In 1940, Ernie Pyle's house was at 700 South Girard.  Now it's 900 Girard "Blvd" SE.  I use Boulevard in quotes, cause it's a pretty narrow little main-ish road, as opposed to the next major street east, Carlisle, which has wide streets bisected by a lovely wide tree-lined, xeriscaped median.
