Before we did our shopping excursion on Saturday, we hit the 11:40am showing of "Wall-E"...a lovely movie. Danny was a little jaded by the agressively Pixar-ized format. He feels it's just them showing off their new graphics capabilities by slapping together a mini-plot, but it was just sweet entertainment to me. Since it's a weekend, we were expecting a house full of noisy pre-teens, but the theatre only was 15% full, if that. The movie was enjoyable in that there were no cell phones going off, no sound of texting around us, no kids acting up, no adult yak-yak. Now why couldn't people have been that considerate when we went to see "The Queen" a while back?

We were going to Sidewinder's to 2 step in the evening, but because of a disagreement with the doorman when we got there (they were trying to charge us a cover charge, even though it was before 8pm and we are technically staff), we went home in a huff. I called the bar manager and he got it sorted out, but we were home already. We watched a depressing, but well-done Comcast HD movie called "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead"...if you're game to watch a pretty graphic opening scene of Philip Seymour Hoffman having doggie-style sex with Marisa Tomei, then you can stomach the rest of the movie.

Slept the night away until 7am...a blessing! Been working on catching up with my personal paperwork and have a few chores to do today. These nearly 3 days off a week are quite nice (when they happen)!

Rain!

Was a lovely day here for most of the day...I even took a daytime dip in the pool, enjoying the water and the heat of the sun. Noodled around with small projects during the day, starting to put the weather station together. Danny put together the new wall cabinet for the downstairs bathroom (so we can finally call that bathroom reno project DONE).

Just as I put the rain measuring bit out on the porch to test it, the heavens opened up and we got this ENORMOUS deluge of rain*. In fact we received as much rain in an hour (per the new electronic gauge) as we've received in precip the entire year! 1.1 inches (so far)

I was able to cross check this with my old rain tube, which had nearly an inch of water in it.   Finally, the Tstorms abated and we could head out to our Chinese buffet for dinner about 7.

Now all I have to do is mount the wind gauge and the rain gauge somewhere permanent and I'm ready to go! Turned off the drip system for the first time this year!

* I'm sending good thoughts to [profile] dukecityjim who has been having serious roof leaks since his new HVAC system was put in earlier this year.
