Meme-ified again!
Feb. 5th, 2010 05:34 pmHere's the first pop song I remember that I knew was a pop hit. I was 7 or 8 at the time, and it made an impression on me, hearing this playing on a diner Wurlitzer juke box. I think my family was making a quick visit with my mother's family in Clarksburg, WV before we went on to Colorado Springs.
This would have been 1962.
I had heard lots of songs before this though, of course. My parents loved Johnny Cash; I remember hearing his songs on the (shortwave) radio when we lived in Germany 1960-1962. Having a TV in Germany would have been useless for us, because none of us spoke German.
I remember Elvis Presley songs dating back to living in Florida in the late 50s. I remember some songs that were pre-rock that my mom sang. Mostly my folks didn't listen to music though.
I probably remember this one because we were moving from Germany back to the US and it was a stressful, enervating time for my whole family.
