Danny got a bug that he wanted to check out a book on the History of the Supreme Court*, so we headed downtown to the main library for a look-see.  Amazingly, although there was a special event in the next block and the parking lots all had people at the entrances with hand-written $5 Parking signs, we found a metered spot directly in front of the entrance!  I thought that only happened on TV!

This library was built in 1975, so it was still somewhat new the last time I visited it about 1982. The main library previous to that was located at Edith and Central and is a lovely example of 1925 Spanish/ Pueblo Revival style architecture.

It's still in use as the special collections/genealogy library. The "new" one is one of those dreadful blocky cement concoctions without any personality that seemed to be the main building style then. But inside, it still has that slightly musty smell with the calming quiet that all big libraries have.

The homeless are still hanging around though, with a number at the reading desks. Reading. Certainly a nice way to while away the hours! All of the public computer kiosks were full, with many youth playing games or whatever.

Danny did find the book he was looking for (finally) and we checked out 3 more DVDs to watch over the next few days. The one we watched last night was "Queens." Although gay-themed, we didn't realize until we started to watch it that it was in SPANISH with English subtitles. It was still fun, if a bit confusing with all the various interrelations.

* that bug started when for the first time, he came across "Bill Moyer's Journal" on TV the night before last and quickly got intrigued by it.
