Just spoke to my brother Steve (the one with a vehicle).

My mom is having her lung biopsy this morning; he took her to the hospital for it a couple of hours ago, but they haven't started yet.  She's understandably nervous, but he been reassuring to her.

It's raining cats and dogs right now there.  The old "eye" of gustav is right over Shreveport and Bossier right now, but Steve says it's just causing heavy rain that'll last a couple of days.  The wind isn't an issue at all, maybe some flooding here and there.  The bad weather is on the east side of the storm hundreds of miles away, where there are plenty of Tstorms and tornado alerts.'

-> 11:30am edit:  She's in recovery and happily groggy.  It was a needle biopsy; she'll have the results at her next appointment on 9/12.  10 days seems like a long time to wait...sigh.

Glad to hear that your mother came through the procedure safely.

HUGS!

I think she's pretty convinced that after all these years she has developed lung cancer (she stopped smoking 31 years ago), but we don't know that for sure...crossing fingers. She's so frail at 86 though that she'd never survive surgery or chemo.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Fingers crossed for your mom. I had a skinny needle biopsy on a gland in my neck once. They did *not* put me out or do anything, really. I just got to lie there while they stuck a big needle in my neck.

It was a surgeon supervising the biopsy. She was ready to remove my thyroid without any diagnostic back-up (when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail kind of thing).

What was the end result? A second opinion?

The end result was some kind of virus, and the gland didn't need to be removed. :) But it was a surgeon with a hammer, and the gland was the nail.

Thanks. My mom has been declining slowly over the past 5 years, so it's been iffy whenever something comes up. My father passed away suddenly in 1987, so it's been much different.
