With a fine start to the morning with the Danster, we opt to just laze around and play TV-catchup for a few hours in the morning, hotly anticipating the 7pm showing of Brokeback Mountain.
Still and all, we ended up being productive, and got the other walls 2nd sanded, 3rd mud-coated and ready for priming. Finished up all the little spackle and fill jobs, along with removing the rest of the old plastic cove base and other chores around all this.
We left for the Century 14 downtown to pickup our tix for Brokeback Mountain at 5:20...getting there, we were surprised to see on the marquis that there were OTHER showings of the film. Apparently, there is such hot interest in the film that it was released not only for the special 7pm showing, but all over town. It was still special though...over the next 90 minutes, all 250 guys (and a few women) queued up in front of Door 4, included dozens of people I know through my various gay networks. Very much a social affair!
We weren't disappointed in the movie, and I did get a bit teary eyed. Danny had gone to great lengths to avoid ANY trailers or spoilers about the movie, and just knew it was about "gay cowboys." We have totally different perspectives about visual entertainment. I LIKE hints about what movies are about, and happily can watch parts of a movie on cable starting in the middle, knowing someday I'll see the whole thing. For Danny, if he knows much about the plot, or even a hint of what the ending is like, it's mentally ruined for him. Anyway, I was pleased about the movie, as was Danny, but he still thought other choices could have been made in the story.
So we took off for Sidewinders Ranch after that for the after-party, which included snacks, dancing and more cameraderie. We only stayed about an hour though, since we were already committed to going the the "Mardi Gras" party there for New Year's...
The days are now ticking away quickly to having to go BACK to work (hefty sigh).
