Slogged away at work today, wanting to get out a bit early to help Danny at home, but of course that just didn't happen.
Danny had a minor mishap this afternoon when he was disassembling the glass shower stall in the master bath. One of the panels fell, shattering into a billion pieces, apparently hitting him on the way down. Since it was safety glass, he didn't even have a scratch.
The kitchen is nearly totally gutted now, except for the peninsula, which is saying bye-bye tomorrow. I had wanted to save the base of it to put in the garage below the cabinets, but it's so built in that that might not be possible. Oh, well.
One small surprise Danny found when tearing out the pantry and double oven area is that the pantry wall is about 4 inches further recessed than the rest of the same wall. Most of the wall was built out as a double wall to enclose all the plumbing for the baths and kitchen. I guess it'll just be furred in, since the new cabinetry was built for a flat wall!
The other not-so-much surprise Danny found a couple days ago is that the living room floor is about 3/4 inch lower than the dining room floor. Hopefully this can be corrected with a 3/4 inch (unbudgeted) subfloor being laid over the existing subfloor. Again, a contractor decision; both rooms are going to be oak flooring.
Roto-rooter did stop by and was able to fairly easily turn the two stubborn hot water valves. ($72).
The next two days will be filled up with the rest of the gutting: both bathrooms and the wall between the master bath and bedroom.
There will still be some minor demo to be done by the contractor, but we'll leave that up to him. Some of the plywood subfloor in the kitchen will have to be ripped up for electrical and plumbing.
From early this morning, before Danny tore the cabinetry out (with great difficulty) down to the walls.

The view from the master bedroom through two closets into what will be the new walkin closet, formerly a small bedroom (and our office)

We finished off the evening with a light dinner, a small tub of ice cream each (his soy, mine milk), Eli Stone, Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty.
