Danny and I are taking shifts at home during the day so that the expensive general contractor doesn't have to babysit all the miscellaneous jobs. We're in constant IM contact, if not cell phone contact. We've already had 2 calls this morning before 7:45am.

The plumbing issue with the leaking tub drain appears to have been solved. But this is at the expense and possible firing of the original plumber who kept botching the works. More ceiling drywall in the laundry room was ripped out yesterday and another plumber fixed the problems fairly easily. No more leaking drain. We're leaving the hole open until all the upstairs tilework is done, just in case. The GC said when he got the bill for the plumbing work on Saturday he knew it was way over inflated because of the job having to be redone several times. That should be resolved soon.

The drywall taper and mudder Joe started work yesterday afternoon, and got here at 7 this morning. Corner bead is all up, taping and mudding should be done this afternoon, and the various texturing should be done and dry by Friday afternoon latest so that Danny and I can spend the weekend at least priming the walls, if not painting before the flooring starts. Right now I can't remember if the flooring is to start Monday or later. While the subfloor is still exposed, we need to work on getting rid of all the creaky floor noises. The GC already ran dozens of screws in the hallway and got rid of 95% of the squeaks. The oak flooring is the real stuff, so has to be installed, sanded and sealed. At this point, I would have been happy with engineered wood to save some $$$.

Ken the tile guy will be visiting with us either tomorrow afternoon or later in the week so we can get a firm idea on the cost of the bathroom tile work. We're going to do the kitchen backsplash ourselves, but for now that will just be painted.

We're at the point now where we have to limit expenses and cut back some of what we were going to do. The budget, which I thought was quite liberal when I allocated it out, has been breached, mostly due to the master bath. 90% of everyone's efforts have been involved in that. But of course, it's only money. Danny just can't retire for a couple more years now.

I think Danny said the kitchen cabinets are scheduled to be installed on 12/8. All the rest of the plumbing and electrical have to be done by the contractors, since the permits are incumbent on them completing the work. Everything is orange-flagged right now anticipating final inspections. At least we have a GREEN tag for having the work done!

Made my reservations this morning on Southwest for Tucson from 1/8 - 11. Looking forward to that trip, with a bit of tourist time on Sunday. Vancouver is just around the corner, with us leaving Thanksgiving Day and returning here the next Tuesday. We're still vaguely thinking about a drive to Louisiana after Christmas to visit my mom, but that may not happen. One thing that does sway it in that direction is that gas was only $1.97/gallon here yesterday.

Vic Ceder's square dance program went all wonky on me last Tuesday night; took me a while to get the program working properly. I'll have to see if there are updates since September that fix some of the issues, probably caused by that lovely XP SP3 update.
