Confusion reigneth

I share an office with two people. One is Linda, the events coordinator. No one confuses me with her.

The other is Billy, the tech director. And I'm Bill E. Many get confused when they're told to come look for Billy.

At my very first job, I worked with two women and the three of us reported to a woman manager. For the first six months I was there, I wasn't out to them. They didn't want to ask questions, but they were curious that I might be gay. The woman I'd replaced was named Nelly.

My whole group (the four of us) sat in an open bullpen area. One day a man came into the area, walked up to me, and asked, “Are you Nelly?”

All eyes were on me. I replied, “Not all the time.” The group told me later that they laughed for weeks over that.
