New Project for 2006
Dec. 17th, 2005 02:47 pmBob Brundage (brother of Al) is a VERY long time contra, round and square dance caller, now retired and living Albuquerque.
In 1997, he started a project in conjunction with the Lloyd Shaw Archives (formerly here in ABQ, now at UC Boulder) to do interviews with Milestone Award winners from Callerlab. Originally, that was the scope, but it sort of got out of hand. To date, the 83-year-old Bob Brundage has recorded 119 interviews with dance legends over the past 8 years. 22 of these folks have already died.
A couple of months ago I broached to Bob that the tapes are just languishing in storage right now, and only 25% of them have been transcribed. My vision was that the audio would be available on a website, as were the transcriptions, and maybe pictures of as many of these folks as we could get.
So, my project for this next year is to make all this happen. And publicize the hell out of it when it's done! Danny and Kris have volunteered to help with the project.
I'm also going to convince Bob to interview some of our gay history legends...we've lost a number already that I can think of.
I LOVE living history!
