Comfy decadence!
Feb. 13th, 2006 11:09 amAlthough I didn't get all my old boxes of non-paper stuff sorted through, it's at least all in a tidy and very manageable pile of boxes in the 'den'. I don't know what to call this 700 square foot room anymore...it's been a dance room, my office, the dogs recreation area, a relaxing area, a room for nude parties...maybe I should do a poll!
Yesterday, we made GREAT headway in making the other areas downstairs livable. The hallway has been de-tooled, de-wood trimmed and de-drywall fragmented, and even vacuumed. It looks really odd to have a roomy hallway after months of extreme-step-over clutter. The library is nearly cleaned out again after having all those boxes in it since before Christmas. The gym is a disaster yet with nearly every tool we own and all the accessories thereof, but after the garage is really a garage with doors, out that all goes.
Saturday (was it then?) we ordered the garage doors, picked up the opener and exterior wireless, and picked up the 4 2x4s and 1 2x6 and the 4 inch screws to complete the readiness of the carport for the installation in a couple of weeks. I almost insisted we call the contractor that was supposed to have gotten the carport garage-ready and blasted him for not quite completing what was easy and obvious, according to the garage door guy that came to assess the needs, but thought better of it. It'll just take us about 30 minutes to do that WHEN we get time.
Oh, Friday, Danny broke down and called Roto-Rooter to change the wax ring in the master bath toilet so we could actually USE it again. We've been putting that project off forever...probably 3 months, too. Some hunk came out and apparently he had to ream the lines out through the house, since that toilet wasn't flushing very well either. Not an easy task, since the plumbing on this 2 story house is complex and 45 years old. We've made do, since we have 3 bathrooms. :-)
They must have had a nice visit...Danny says he gave him a whole house tour and a back yard tour. Odd.
Danny's having a LOT of interesting things happen to him lately. He's been working with the now-ex president VERY closely on his computer issues right at his house...he's been asked by the County Clerk in charge of voting machines his opinions on certain new machines they're thinking of getting, since Danny has corresponded with her on paper copies of vote records. The district representative has even been corresponding with him...
YESTERDAY, after doing quite a bit of cleanup, we headed out to SHOP FOR RECLINERS. This ended up being over a 4 hour process, with 4 store visits. After testing out about 30, we ended up at American Furniture buying 2 delightful plush rocker-recliners for the 'media center' downstairs. We had to wait about 30 minutes for us to be called for the pickup...I was GREATLY afeared that I'd have to pickup one yesterday, then run back today and pick up the other. Amazingly, each recliner came in two pieces, and I was able to fit BOTH of them in my Saturn VUE. I was stunned!
So off we trotted home (after a quick trip to Kmart to pick up more felt pads for the bottom) and quickly popped them together...ahhhhh! I love rocker-recliners, ever since the days in my first relationship where as soon as I sat down in one, I'd fall comfortably to sleep!
I put together a nice dinner soup of squash, potatoes, onions with my famous chicken broth, and we retired to the recliners to re-watch one of my faves, "Mambo Italiano" in surround sound. Decadent, or what!
After Danny went to bed, I officially christened my recliner by falling asleep to CNN....
