A lost day

I don't know what happened to my body chemistry this past weekend. After all good intentions of going to bed Sunday night to wake up chipper for work on Monday, I didn't sleep at all that night. Kept going to bed thinking I'd nod off, but I'd just lay there, and when I couldn't, I headed back downstairs to watch TV mindlessly over and over.

In desperation, by 4am, I went to bed in the guest room so I wouldn't bother Danny with my comings and goings. He was up at 6, and yet there I still was, awake and bleary and getting cranky. By 6:30, I did finally pass out until 8, when I woke and called in to work that I was out of it. Passed out again until 10am when the guest room phone rang and woke me up.

Trying to get back to sleep didn't work, so I just wandered around at home in a fog all day. I called back in to work that I'd been in on Tuesday. Danny thought I should see if Kris would call for me on Monday night, but I thought if I could finally slip in a nap, I'd be up for it. And I did get a nap from about 4pm to 4:30...but was still groggy.

So, I DID call for 3 1/4 hours last night, and although I wasn't energized, I was concentrating a lot more on what I was doing, and the evening was a success. I even stayed to dance the last two tips of Randy Dougherty's dance next door, since he was passing through town.

Last night, mercifully, I slept a good solid sleep and while not a bundle of energy, I'm functioning. I RARELY get early onset insomnia...the opposite is more usual...waking up too early, and even that had waned to rare. I suspect it was drinking a cup of coffee on Saturday and Sunday mornings...so I'm going to quit that totally again.

Insomnia is absolutely the pits. Besides coffee, another thing that can cause it is alcohol. Many people think alcohol is good for putting them to sleep, but in fact it is known to be a deterrent to continous, restful sleeping.

That's not to say you were drinking all weekend, of course! Whatever it was, I hope you're back on track.
