Movies not to watch

Danny rented "Rumor Has It" with Jennifer Aniston, Shirley MacLain, and Kevin Costner for our post-dinner viewing. He picked it out since it sounded light and fun. Certainly it would be a foil to "Jarhead*," which was disturbingly interesting, especially the deleted scenes.
It was bad. One of those movies that the actors had no idea why there were there, walked through their scenes, had cameos for no discernable reason, and a directionless plot. I would have expected more from Rob Reiner as director and the actors. It just seemed a way for these top actors to add a few bucks to the checking account. Mark Ruffalo was nice to look at though...I've only known peripherally about him. Didn't know until I IMDBed him that he had brain cancer a few years ago and pulled through.
The highlight of the evening was Danny's Sunday Dinner. Perfectly roasted pork with baked onion and brown gravy, broiled carrots, a delightful dish with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and rutabaga, and green peas. We've cooked dinner three times this past week, which is surely must be a record for us.
After dinner, but before the movie, we sat for a half hour on the back deck, enjoying a glass of wine, the cool breezes of the late afternoon at sunset, and the shenanigans of the hummingbirds around the feeders. All was well in our world.
* "Jarhead" was a decent movie to rent, especially with the situation today in Iraq and the rest of the world. If for no other reason, it was interesting to see the juxtaposition of two male dominated films Jake Gyllenhaal was in, both with their own brands of homophobia. I'm going to follow his career...I could become a Gyllenhallic, what with those gorgeous blue eyes and dark thick hair and the undercurrent of goofiness under the skin, with the thought that he might be...um....family.
